There is nothing worse than lounging comfortably in bed,
only to realize something you need is not within arms distance.
(okay obviously that's an exaggeration but you get the picture.)
That is when nightstand storage comes in handy.
However, my bedside table LACKs storage.
(it's the Ikea LACK side table. get it? ha ha ha)
I was on a super tight budget for my room (as are most college students) so obviously considering this $7.00 option made a lot of sense.
I briefly thought about craigslisting one, but after purchasing it, and getting the items necessary to refinish it, I definitely would have paid more than $7.00.
I can't even eat at Chipotle for that cheap.
So I went with the least expensive option.
I like it because it's open at the bottom,
so it takes up less visual space than a bulky nightstand would have,
and that makes a big difference in this little room.
But I digress. Storage.
I didn't want a bunch of my ugly bedside table items to be strewn about,
because that's just not very aesthetically pleasing is it?
So I bought this little guy:
It's the Socker Plant Pot from Ikea.
I have a serious love for galvenized steel.
I can't explain why but I adore it.
This little baby only cost a $1.60 and it's perfect for holding the essentials.
I keep my remote, my phone charger, advil, chapstick, and a pair of glasses
tucked away in here every night.
Take a peek:
Sorry for the terrible quality. It was taken with my crappy camera phone.
I'm realllyy thinking about investing in a good camera in the next month or so.
Cross your fingers I can find a good deal!
Anways, not a bad solution for $1.60!
I'm not sure if I'll stick with this nightstand situation for next year when I move apartments
(mostly just because I get bored easily and I like to change things all the time)
but for now it's working swimmingly.
Also, just in case you're wondering...
-The books on the table are Home Rules by Nate Berkus and The One Hundred by Nina Garcia.
I love them both.
- The lamp is courtesy of HomeGoods which I believe cost $30.00
-The mirror leaning against the wall was a thrift store find.
I believe it was .99 cents and I spray painted it with Rustoleum Metallic Silver.

-The flower vase is from TJ Maxx and I think it was around 5 or 6 bucks.
Well then, I'm off to play Chef!
I'm making Trevor dinner tonight
(I haven't seen him in a week and he lives blocks away.
That's what the end of winter quarter will do for ya.)
I want to start preparing early in case I have any mishaps.
Which is likely...
Happy Friday!

I know it's only a peek at your room, but it looks amazing! I love the colour choices and I LOVE galvanized steel. I have a similar pot only larger that I use for my garbage bin in my room. Maybe once you're finished school you can come design my room? :) ...I'm only half joking because I know you don't know me, and that'd be weird, but you seriously have a knack for interior design!
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet! Thank you! And I'd love to come design your room :)! lol. I'll put pictures up of the whole room in the next month or so! I was trying to wait until I had a decent camera since the camera phone just doesn't quite cut it. I'm glad I'm not the only one in love with galvanized steel :)
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great idea Caitlin! I recently bought a pail kind of like this at target because it was blue and cute and in the 1 dollar section haha. I didn't know what to do with it though! This is perfect! Love looking at your blog!
